2005 to present, the client commissioned WYG to provide detailed design for the treatment of pumped mine water from the former Silverdale Colliery. As part of the Masterplan for the development of the site, WYG concluded that the relocation of part of the current mine water treatment facilities would improve the viability of the proposed improvement s to the site.

The design includes the provision of a new aeration cascade aerobic wetland and modifications to the existing settlement tanks, pipe ranges and drains. The revised scheme is to be adopted by the Coal Authority.
