Sheephouse Wood, Sheffield

WYG are currently working on behalf of The Coal Authority to evaluate the options for treating the rising mine water currently issuing from the Halifax Coal Seam at the outcrop.

A borehole was sunk into the Halifax Coal mineworking in 2004 and a pump test was conducted to determine if water abstracted from the workings at this location would control the ochreous water discharging from the Sheephouse Wood adit.

The development of the scheme continues with the installation of a permanent pumping plant and study of the treatment options available. This is programmed for 2007.
