Pond with minewater

IMC / WYG have completed the detailed design of a regional Minewater pumping station to control underground water levels in the Blyth area of South Northumberland. This regional pumping station was installed and currently discharges to large sedimentation lagoons for the removal of ochre solids followed by tertiary treatment on a major wetland. As the mine water at this location is highly saline in nature, the type of plants that are required to be used as part of a passive wetland system need to saline tolerant (halophytic). At present there is an extensive study taking place at Bates in which WYG are collaborating with the University of Birmingham and Newcastle University, to determine the most effective type of plants to use in this type of treatment environment.
